Reading, Read, Read.
When I was a kid I would inhale whole books in a single sitting. I can't even remember how many times I was in trouble for sneaking my lamp under the blankets whilst in bed just to finish another chapter after bedtime. Granted now I can see that was a fire hazard but at the time I just did not understand the issue!
This is something that quickly changed in the years after college once social media became such a 'thing'. Now I am guilty of being one of those people that can't even sit through a couple of boring commercials without scrolling through Instagram. It is just so sad that my mind needs to be constantly going and doing three things at once to feel fulfilled and not 'bored'. I decided that needed to stop and the sooner the better! I need to THINK more and not just mindlessly stare at my phone for hours on end.
I am off to a pretty good start thanks to Estee Lalondes' book Bloom. I really do have to credit this book as the reason that I am back into reading. From the moment that I picked it up and started the first chapter I was back to my old self just wanting to keep reading well past hours that I should have been up reading. It got to the point where the book was just so good I actually forced myself to stop reading so quickly because I didn't want it to end. Alas it did end eventually and I felt just as content as I thought I would about this book. It helped remind me that it is okay to be me and that I don't need to fit anyones mold because that is not whom I am meant to be. If you are looking for a good non-fiction read be sure to pick this up!
Since finishing Bloom I had been trying to work through books that were already on the shelf but nothing was jumping out, so after a whirlwind flight change and some extra hours of waiting in Seattle I made my way into a bookstore and just started reading the backs of all the interesting looking books and taking pictures of them for future reference. I finally picked up The Wild Woman's Guide to Traveling the World and now here we are... a completely reading addicted lady over here (again).
Now that I want to devour as many books as I can I have started a list of books that I want to get through. Instead of bombard you all with the WHOLE list I have narrowed it down to just the ones I have read so far this year and the ones I hope to get through this summer. I am sure you will notice a theme. ; )
