Into the Forrest
A couple of weeks ago we had friends that were camping at Sequoia National Park and they so kindly invited us to join them for the weekend! Little did we know that it would take us about eight hours to drive all the way to the campsite, but since they drove all the way from Omaha I guess its only fair, right?
It is a beautiful park and well worth the long drive but what really made it worth it was being able to feel a little bit closer to the MidWest (i.e humidity, mosquitoes and The Gardners) even if it was just for a weekend. We didn't do too much exploring since we had Theodore (the pup) with us but here are some shots that we got without hiking too far into the wilderness.
When you start your drive through The Giant Forest it is just utterly insane, as much as you try from inside of the car you cannot see the tops of the trees nearest you! Your best bet is to hop out of the car and crane your neck as FAR back as you can manage! :)
Something that we didn't think of or prepare for was that once you arrive at the park it can take hours to get to your campsite! It took us roughly two hours or so to get to the actual campsite, even though it wasn't that many miles (maybe 25 or so?) the road is just so narrow and windy up through the mountains. Lucky for us they had quite a few scenic stops that we took full advantage of!
Ah! Even though I do not enjoy being swarmed by bugs or the risk of coming face to face with a snake this is a trip we will make again I am certain.
