Packing for a Weekend Getaway!
This past Friday after work the man, the pup and I loaded up and made our way to Johnson Lake, NE. Typically I am terrible at prepping for trips, I am sooooooo bad about overpacking and procrastinating. For this weekend away I planned and packed the night before, that is REALLY good for me. I tried really hard to only pack exactly what I needed and was pretty successful. I found that breaking it down into categories was very helpful: makeup, toiletries, skin care, accessories, clothing, technology, games and puppy items.
Makeup: The reason for our trip was actually for a close family friends wedding so some makeup was needed. I actually managed to use every single product shown here at least once if not twice on our three day get away, pretty impressive considering I decided to take a day off for the sake of my poor skin on Monday.
Toiletries: I tried to keep this area to a minimum taking only the items that I knew for a fact that I would use. Since it unfortunately rained a good portion of our trip I had no need for the bug spray but with my ability to attract mosquitoes it is better to carry it with me on all trips that might bring me outdoors in the night hours, just in case.
Skin Care: In the past this section would have been one that I would have skimped on and just packed face wash and moisturizer. I am doing so well at actually following an AM and PM skin care routine currently though that I was determined to keep up with it as close as I could. I have a stash of travel friendly sized items that I keep around so I picked some of those instead of loading all of my full sized items into a bag.
Accessories: This was an area that I did terrible in. It is not pictured but I most defiantly packed four pairs of flats and a pair of sandals. I ended up using three of the pairs of flats but could have very easily have only packed two pairs and been fine, oh well, it could have been so much worse. I also overpacked when it came to earnings but they are so tiny and packed away into a small box so I do not feel so bad about it.
Clothing: Usually an area that I am super awful about overpacking in, this time I did so well! I only packed two things that I ended up not using. I kept it simple and packed mostly casual items with one dressier outfit for the wedding. It was a super casual farm town wedding so no need for anything fancy.
Technology / Games: For sure did not need most of these items, turns out we had no data service on our phones and no internet / wifi access at the lake house we stayed in. Packing the laptop worked out though because I was able to write a couple of posts on our drive home. We only played one of the seven games packed but still good things to bring with when we have the WHOLE family together for a few days, you never know when a good card game will be needed. (Forgot to take a picture of the items!)
Puppy Items: If Theodore could talk I am sure he would have said, “Thank you, for packing all of my toys and treats!” Yes, we could have packed less toys and treats but ehhhh I would much rather overpack in this section and make sure he was entertained and not barking and running around all crazy like. (Insert cute puppy picture since I forgot to take a picture of all his stuff!)
